Roughly 50 cars have been covered with what appears to be blood from a person in the German city of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, according to police.
Automobiles, building surfaces and postboxes were vandalized, sometimes with prohibited symbols, they reported in a release.
Officers say they were contacted in the late hours on Wednesday evening, when a man noticed that a automobile in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been covered with a reddish-hued fluid.
The fluid had been drawn in the form of a swastika, they added.
Officers then located multiple other marked vehicles and residential walls in the nearby vicinity.
Nazi symbols are illegal in Germany under legislation outlawing the public exhibition of Nazi-era symbols.
Officials state initial examinations indicate the fluid was likely human blood.
"Currently there is no indication as to where it came from; investigators are presently not cognizant of any harm in connection with the incident," they commented.
Municipal representatives said they were attempting "to unravel the mystery" and have requested to the public for details.
A high-ranking representative said the incident rendered him stunned and required to be solved quickly.
"This event hits the very heart of Hanau and reopens the pain of the far-right violent incident in 2020," he wrote on online, referring to the death of nine people by a assailant aiming at individuals of immigrant origin in 2020.
